Knee Pain Relief: How to Start (a Walkthrough)

If you’re searching for “what happens at a knee pain visit” or “how do I know if I’m a candidate for stem cell therapy?” — this page is the answer. It walks you through what to expect from the first call to your first follow-up.

15-min new patient call No commitment to book Out-of-pocket prices up front

“Maria, 62, gardener from Mt. Pleasant. Her right knee had been waking her up for eight months. Two cortisone shots, three months of PT, no lasting change. She found this page on a Sunday afternoon, called Monday morning, was in the office Wednesday.”— common Lowcountry pattern we see weekly

The 4 Steps

Step 1 — The 15-Minute Phone Call

We figure out if you’re even a candidate

You call (843) 604-2276. We spend ~15 minutes asking about: when the pain started, what’s been tried (cortisone, PT, surgery talk), prior imaging, your goals (back to gardening? pickleball? just pain-free stairs?). At the end of the call, you’ll know whether to come in or whether we’d refer you elsewhere. No charge for the call.

Step 2 — Exam, Movement Screen, Imaging Review

30-45 minutes in the office on Otranto Rd

You come to 2294 Otranto Rd, North Charleston. We do a movement screen (squat, lunge, balance), test joint stability, palpate the knee, review any imaging you bring. We tell you in plain English what’s worn out, what’s inflamed, and what’s actually fixable. If we think you’d be better served by a knee surgeon, we say that — and we’ll refer you to one we trust.

Step 3 — A Specific Plan With Numbers

Treatment menu, prices, expected timeline

For knees, our menu typically looks like:

SoftWave Therapy

From $200/session
Sound-wave therapy for tendon and joint inflammation. Most knees do 6–10 sessions. No needles, no downtime.

PRP (Platelet-Rich Plasma)

$1,200 per knee
Concentrated growth factors from your own blood, injected into the knee. Most patients do 1–3 injections over 6–12 weeks.

A2M (Alpha-2 Macroglobulin)

$3,297 per knee
Cartilage protection — slows the breakdown enzymes. Often paired with PRP. Single injection, 6-month duration.

Stem Cell Therapy

$3,797 per knee
For knees where PRP/A2M alone won’t go far enough. Single injection. Paired with chiropractic + SoftWave for best result.

For the full mechanics — how each treatment works, who’s a good candidate, what the science says — see our knee pain treatment hub page.

Step 4 — Follow-Up at 6 Weeks

We measure, we adjust

At 6 weeks we re-test what was painful at intake. If you’re 70%+ better, we usually back off treatment frequency. If you’re stuck, we change the plan — sometimes that means adding a treatment, sometimes referring out. We don’t keep you on a 30-visit plan when 6 visits did the job.

Start with the 15-minute call

It’s the fastest way to find out if you’re a candidate, what your plan would look like, and what it would cost. No commitment to book.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need imaging before my first visit?

Not required. If you have an MRI or X-ray from the last 18 months, bring it (PDF or disc both work). If you don’t, we can usually figure out the picture from a careful exam.

How quickly can I be seen?

Most knee patients book the 15-min call within 48 hours of reaching out. The in-office visit is typically 3–7 days after that, depending on whether you’re traveling.

Does insurance cover this?

Chiropractic and SoftWave often have insurance coverage. Regenerative therapies (PRP, A2M, stem cell) are typically out-of-pocket and we tell you the exact number before you commit. We do not “wait until after the X-ray” to give you a price.

What if you don’t think I’m a candidate?

We say so. We’d rather lose your $0-deposit visit than waste your money. We refer to orthopedists, sports medicine docs, and PT clinics we trust when that’s the right call.

How is this different from your knee pain hub page?

The hub page covers the full menu of treatments and the science. This page is a process walkthrough — what literally happens, in what order, with what timelines and prices. Read both.

I’m out of town — can I still come in?

Yes. We see patients from across SC and GA, often within a 4-hour drive. See our regenerative medicine destination page for travel logistics.
