Common questions
Can my back cause pain in my legs?
Yes, it can. Nerves from your low back travel into your hips, legs and feet. When one of these nerves is pinched or irritated, you may feel pain, tingling or numbness in your leg, sometimes more than in your back. At your visit, we check where it starts.
Can neck problems cause headaches?
Yes, they can. Tight muscles and stiff joints in the upper neck can send pain into the back of your head. This is often called a cervicogenic headache. At your visit, we look at your neck and talk with you about what may be behind your headaches.
What does the sciatic nerve do?
The sciatic nerve is the largest nerve in your body. It starts from nerve roots in your low back and runs through your buttock and down the back of each leg. It helps you feel and move your legs and feet. When something presses on it, you may feel pain, tingling or numbness down your leg. This is often called sciatica.
Is my numbness from my back or from neuropathy?
It can be either one, or both. Numbness or tingling in your feet can come from a pinched nerve in your low back, or from damage to the small nerves in your feet, called neuropathy. We check for both at your visit, so your care plan fits what is really going on.
Do I need an X-ray or MRI first?
Not always. Many people start without new imaging. At your visit, we will tell you if an X-ray or MRI would help. If you already have images or reports, bring them with you.
